About Our Commercial Security Systems

At Gold Standard Security Scotland, we design and install business security systems for small and medium companies across Glasgow and Scotland’s central belt, from independent shops and convenience stores to offices, hotels, pubs and restaurants. Commercial premises rarely need the same system as a home, so we survey the site first, then recommend the cameras, detection and monitoring that match how the business actually operates.

Monitored Business Alarms

Your business alarm system can be monitored 24/7 through an NSI Gold accredited alarm receiving centre, with trained operators verifying an activation before anyone is called out.

Fewer False Alarms

Ajax sensors are designed for accurate detection, which reduces the false alarms that disrupt trading, waste staff time and erode confidence in the system.

Ongoing Servicing and Support

We maintain the systems we install, keeping cameras, detection and monitoring reliable as your premises, staff and opening hours change over time.

Security Systems for Pubs, Shops and Small Venues

A pub, a shop and a small venue ask something of a system that a home never does. It runs all day with the public inside the building, then protects an empty premises with stock and takings in it overnight. That double job is why we specify a system for a shop or a pub around how it trades, rather than around its floor area.

Shops and Convenience Stores

A shop’s system usually combines cameras over the till and the door with an alarm zoned for the stockroom. For most small shops it comes down to four places. They are the entrance, at head height so the camera captures a face rather than the top of a head; both sides of the counter; the aisles holding spirits, tobacco and small electricals; and the stockroom and delivery door. We judge retail security systems on whether the recording identifies a person, not on how many cameras there are.

Pubs, Bars and Licensed Premises

Pub security systems typically have to cope with a full room, background noise and constant movement at the bar on a busy trading night. CCTV is not a national condition of a premises licence in Scotland. It is a local one: the City of Glasgow Licensing Board’s policy statement of November 2023 addresses CCTV at new off-sales premises and at new outdoor licensed areas. The conditions on your own premises licence are what bind you, so check them before planning where cameras go.

Offices and Small Venues

Office security systems usually come down to who holds a code and what is armed when. Zoning lets a stockroom, server room or office be armed while the rest of the premises trades, the same principle behind our alarm systems for shops. Individual user codes show who set and unset the system, and wireless sensors avoid chasing cables through a tenement or a listed frontage.

Cameras and Data Protection

Once cameras are recording people, a business is processing personal data, and three duties follow: registering with the Information Commissioner’s Office, signage that says who is filming and why, and a retention period you have set and can justify. We raise all three at the survey.

Our Approach to Commercial Security

Every commercial installation is quoted individually, because a convenience store, a two-floor office and a busy pub all carry different risks and different working hours.

What a system costs depends on the number of cameras and detection points, whether cabling is practical, and whether you want the system monitored. We set all of that out in a written quote before any work is booked.

1. Free Site Survey

We visit your premises to assess entry points, camera positions, stock or cash areas, and how your staff and customers move through the building.

2. Written Quote

You receive a written quote setting out the equipment, the installation and any monitoring, so there is nothing to work out after the engineers arrive.

3. Professional Installation

Our certified engineers work tidily and with minimal disruption to customers, staff and deliveries, and we agree the timing with you before we book it in.

4. Handover and Aftercare

We walk your team through the system, then keep it maintained and supported, so it stays reliable as the business changes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Commercial Security Systems in Glasgow

We have answered the most common questions about commercial security systems in Glasgow. If you need advice on your own premises, please contact us.

How much do commercial security systems cost in Glasgow?

We quote commercial work per site rather than from a package, because the cost depends on the number of cameras and detection points, the cabling involved, and whether the system is monitored. Every quote is written and given after a free survey.

Do you install commercial CCTV in Glasgow?

Yes. We handle commercial CCTV installation across Glasgow, from a few cameras over a shop front to wider coverage of a warehouse or car park. You can read more on our CCTV systems page.

Can a business alarm system be professionally monitored?

Yes. A business alarm system can be connected to an NSI Gold accredited alarm receiving centre for 24/7 monitoring, with trained operators verifying activations before a response is arranged. Our intruder alarm systems page explains the equipment.

Which areas do you cover for commercial security systems?

We install commercial security systems across Scotland’s central belt, typically travelling up to 70 miles from our base in Bishopbriggs. That covers Glasgow and much of the surrounding area.

Will a security system for a business affect our insurance?

It can. Many commercial insurers ask for a graded intruder alarm and sometimes monitoring. We install Ajax equipment certified to the standards UK insurers reference, and commission every system so it performs to that certification on site. Check your policy wording before you commit.

How long does it take to install a security system for business premises?

Most small commercial installations are completed in one to two days, and smaller jobs often in a single visit. We confirm the timescale in your written quote.

Do you look after the system after installation?

Yes. We service and maintain the systems we install, so faults are dealt with by the people who fitted them. Ongoing maintenance also keeps detection accurate, which is what stops false alarms becoming a weekly problem.

Can CCTV and alarms be combined into one commercial security system?

Yes. Cameras, detection and monitoring can run as one system, so an alarm activation can be checked against footage rather than guessed at. It is the setup we usually recommend for commercial security systems in Glasgow.

Can you take over a security system installed by another company?

Yes. We take over both CCTV and intruder alarm systems installed by another company. We survey the existing system first to check the equipment is sound and worth keeping, then take on the servicing and maintenance for your business premises from there. If the hardware is not up to the job, we will tell you rather than maintain something that will not protect the premises. If you also need the system monitored, tell us at the survey and we will confirm what is possible.

Is CCTV a legal requirement for a pub in Scotland?

Not automatically. CCTV is not one of the conditions that applies to every premises licence in Scotland. A Licensing Board can attach it locally. The City of Glasgow Licensing Board’s policy statement of November 2023 addresses CCTV at new off-sales premises and at new outdoor licensed areas. The same statement says a fully operational system may be considered necessary where a premises, or a type of premises, has become or is likely to become associated with high levels of crime or disorder, for example at a licence review. The conditions on your own premises licence are what bind you.

Do I need to register with the ICO to have CCTV in my shop?

Yes, if the cameras capture images of people and you are not already registered. The ICO asks you to register as a controller and pay the data protection fee, and it says there is no exemption for using CCTV to prevent crime on your own premises. Cameras on a shop floor and over the counter record customers as well as staff, so signage at the entrance and a stated retention period are part of the job.
